God starts with you //
In this first message on our new website, Tony writes about a vital principle worth understanding.
Ever been frustrated in achieving your desires at work? Or felt you were missing something in your ministry calling?
Most of us strive to be the best at what we do and are fulfilled when we do things well. The problem comes when things breakdown - we may lose our job or not be where we want to be in our ministry. When that happens we can easily fall apart. The answer could be that we are looking in the wrong direction. When that happens we need to go back to basics and understand how God sees things.
We are always striving for self esteem and satisfaction in what we do; however, God is more interested in who we are. Our self-esteem and our purpose in life should be based on where we stand in our relationship with the Lord. That statement will probably surprise some of you, especially if you do not have a relationship with Him. If that is you, then the first step to real success in life is to give your heart to Him. If you do that we'd love to hear from you.
So many times in our Christian walk we are held back because we don't walk in the truth of who we are in Christ, recognising the full measure of what He did for us on the cross. As a result we strive when we should be at rest and confident of the future. Consequently we fall short of our full potential because our mindset holds us back. We think, "if only I could do that, everything would be okay and I will make it, or God will be pleased"- the truth is we should be thinking: "God loves me so much, I am safe in Him and all He has made me to be, so I have made it anyway just by knowing and loving Him."
Consider this; when it was clear that we needed an answer for the blockage in us that was keeping us from a relationship with Him, God did not send us a 5000 page manual with diagrams and computer projections, explaining what we should do. No, He sent us Himself in the form of Jesus, to experience the life we go through and, through His life, to demonstrate to us that things can be different for us. God knew that only who He was, could deal with the problem of who we are.
The Bible is full of men and women who did great exploits for God, but time and again it also gives us insights into the true heart of those people. King David, for all his mistakes, was seen as a man after God's own heart because being in a right place with God, was more important than all his victories.
Take a step aside today from the business of life and ask yourself, not 'what am I doing?' but 'who am I being?' Then allow God to be to you afresh all that He has always wanted to be. Revisit some scriptures that speak of what He has already done in you as a believer and let them sink in to your spirit man. Speak the truth of those verses out over to yourself rather than what you have perhaps been saying, or thinking, or trying to do.
You will be amazed at how your outlook on life changes and you begin to see yourself as God always intended. God loves who you are and He wants you to love yourself too; then give Him thanks and love for all He is in return.
If you have any questions or feedback on the above, I would love to hear from you.
