Jesus cares about the One //
Last month we considered the story of Jesus and the disciples crossing the sea of Galilee and running into the storm.
This month I want us to look further at Luke 8:26-39.
When the party reached the other side they were met with a huge challenge. There was a man, demon possessed and the biggest problem for miles around.
No one could handle him. We see from other scriptures he broke chains and he was running around naked terrorising the neighbourhood.
Then Jesus stepped in and with a word of command cast the demons out of the man. They knew who Jesus was and that there was no future for them. Jesus allowed them to go into the swine as he had no use for them. He was a Jew after all.
Notice that this got people’s attention. Deliverance or salvation always will. It stirred up the region in a different sense and fear caused them to ask Jesus to depart.
However, before doing so Jesus made sure He spent time with the man, who incidentally and not surprisingly wanted to go with Him. Instead, Jesus made him an evangelist for the region to take the good news using his testimony.
Jesus then got in the boat and went straight back to the other side.
There are 2 clear points from this event that we must learn.
Firstly, Jesus risked everything for just this one man. Himself, His disciples and other boats with them. He risked His reputation but He obviously did what the Father said. It is a reflection of the compassion and kindness of God.
It demonstrates to us just what Jesus thinks of and will do for the one person who needs Him. He has not changed today and will still do the same.
Here is the chgallenge. What would you be prepared to do for the one who needs Jesus.
Then you never know the effect there will be about changing one persons life. This man went throughout the region telling people about Jesus. So much so that when He returned, instead of rejecting Him, they ran far and wide bringing sick people to Jesus for healing.
Just think of the difference of leading one person to Christ.it took one person to lead Billy Graham to the Lord. It took one person to change Reinhard Bonkke’s life. Changing one person’s life can change the world big time.
However, for Jesus that was never enough. He went back and on to the next assignment. He did not rest in His success because there is always more. It is continuous.
Are you ready for that commitment?
Are you ready for faith?
Are you ready for the storm?
Are you ready for victory?
