It is time for Breakthrough //
I love the passages of the Bible that give us real life stories of the times of David the King. If we grab hold of them they give us insight for our lives. I want to look particularly at the idea of breakthrough in our daily lives.
There is a great passage in 2 Samuel 5:17-25 that helps us.
David had just been anointed king over all Israel. However, it did not take long for the enemy to show up. It is typical of the devil to challenge every victory and every good thing in our life.
When that happens be it financial problems, the kids, sickness or a job that eludes you, it is easy to get locked up and seemingly with no way out.
When that happens we need to remind ourselves God is always ready for breakthrough to take you to the next level.
We see that David was up against it from the whole of the Philistine army. Now notice here that David was wise. He did not try to work it out on his own. That is a major lesson for us. When things go wrong we have a tendency to do one of two things
1 Panic and give up
2 We try to sort it out ourselves with no help
When we do that, problems occur and it gets worse. David however, immediately enquired of the Lord. He took it to God. It was his first thought not his afterthought. That is important for us to learn. Then as David submitted himself to the Lord the answer came.
In Davids case it was to go up and defeat the enemy because the Lord would deliver him. In verse 23 when it happened again He gave David a way through that he had not even thought of.
He called that place Baal Perazim, which literally means the Lord breaks through or some people call it The Lord of the breakthrough. Now consider this David only broke through when he chose to humble himself and trust in something outside himself. David was a mighty warrior and superb military planner. He could have considered everything and worked out for himself if he had the strength to succeed. But he knew it was a much better option to go to God even if everything said to him it was okay to attack.
Ultimately this close walk with God and operating in faith and being obedient to do what God said was the difference that gave him victory again and again.
I believe He will do the same for you and I if we take our circumstances to Him. So let me suggest this. Take a piece of paper and write down areas in your life where you need a breakthrough. Now this is not a quick fix. We have to be prepared for the process that God may say to do and be obedient. Once you have done that hold up that list in the air.
Go to the Lord and declare that this situation is subject to His breakthrough and you will do what it takes to do your part, believing God to do His part. Pray for wisdom and revelation in the midst of this.
I believe breakthrough will come. When it does tell your story so we can all be encouraged as we go forward together.
