The Light of His Presence //
Have you ever been at home in an evening when there was a sudden power outage and all the lights go out. It can be difficult fumbling in pitch black trying to find candles and matches just to get some light.
It makes you realise how different the world is without light. We depend on it for so much. The presence of light makes a big difference to our natural world.
As we approach Christmas I want us to consider the difference that the light of the presence of Jesus makes to our whole world.
The bible tells us that Jesus came to move us from darkness into light. The darkness here is more than just absence of light. It is reflected in all that goes on around us:wars, crime, family splits, drugs, drink problems, financial worries or arguments. Even then that does not touch the deeper darkness that comes from not having a relationship with Him.
So at this time of year we remember that God took action to ease the pressure on us once and for all. 2000 years ago He graced us with His presence so we need never be the same.
However God had a problem. What form of His presence would we accept help in? Jesus could have come as He is. A powerful, shining warrior king. The ultimate super hero.
He could have come as a super celebrity. Is that not who the world looks up to today.
No God used wisdom and chose that the presence of Jesus among us should start hardly noticed and vulnerable as a baby.. We all love babies. We all respond to a baby. We can identify with them. We desire to take care of them. So we celebrate because Jesus came as a baby.
We even give presents because Jesus received presents.
Jesus presences Himself personally with us. We remember that at Christmas. We have an opportunity to be changed by that presence. Perhaps you are not looking forward to Christmas. Maybe every year you hope it will be different.
This year it can be different. Jesus can change everything for you if you allow Him in.
One of the presents Jesus received was gold. It seems as if it is unperishable even in salt water for centuries.
Yet 1Peter 1 says “It was not with perishable things of silver and gold that you were redeemed but with the precious blood of Jesus.
Jesus came as a baby so we accepted Him but He died as a grown man so God could accept us.
Allow the light of His presence to change your world this Christmas.
Have a blessed time
